Christine Stewart, age 38, daughter of Leon and Nancy Husisian of Elmira, NY, passed away Friday, July 7th, after a two year battle with cancer. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Mark Mrkus; her two children Katelyn Stewart, 10, and Eric Stewart, 7; and her brothers Gregory Husisian (of Oakton, VA) and Jeffrey Husisian (of Apalachin, NY).
Christine was a 1985 graduate of Elmira Free Academy, and a 1989 graduate of Cornell University. She lived for twelve years in Naples, Florida, where she worked as a graphic designer. She is the author of a book, Practical Truisms, and a website, www.practicaltruisms.com, where her ongoing battle with cancer and her philosophies for coping with life’s opportunities and adversities are described.
This website has been a source of inspiration and hope to many people. One of Christine’s final wishes was that this website continue to inspire hope in people diagnosed with lung cancer and offer some guidance in coping with battling cancer. Christine did go into remission which is almost unheard of in stage IV lung cancer. New therapies are in the works but funding for lung cancer research is very small compared to other cancers. Especially non-smoking-related lung cancer of which they know very little but are seeing more and more. I plan to keep this website going in Christine’s memory and as a source of information for people diagnosed.
I will keep Christine’s contact info for now: christine@practicaltruisms.com or
mark@practiclatruisms.com. Feel free to send an email with questions or just to say hello. I will try to answer as quickly as I can.
Order Practical Truisms
If you can, go to www.unitingagainstlungcancer.org and make a donation in Christine's name.
Their focus is non-smoking-related lung cancer research funding.
Christine was a candle that burned brightly and for much too short a time. I can only hope I gave her as much love as she gave me.
Mark Mrkus
